TradeBeam’s Global Trade Management Solution Streamlines Global Export Compliance at Anritsu
Leading supplier to the telecom and optical industries strengthens supply chain and improves productivity while reducing costs
San Mateo, CA, August 14, 2006—TradeBeam, Inc., a leading provider of on-demand Global Trade Management (GTM) software and services, announced today key results achieved through its work with Anritsu. Anritsu, a provider of test and measurement solutions, devices and components used in the telecommunications, optical and wireless industries, turned to TradeBeam for help in meeting the challenges of regulatory obligations while minimizing labor requirements.
With customers spread across four continents, Anritsu needed to establish a single, global export control platform that would enable compliance process automation. When regulatory requirements tightened post-9/11 and as Anritsu’s business expanded, maintaining export compliance excellence became increasingly time consuming. Restricted-party list compilation and screening, license requirement determination and end user screening were manually intensive processes that increased corporate risk of noncompliance and ate into the productivity of Anritsu’s order management, compliance and logistics departments.
Anritsu needed to replace manual screening processes performed by multiple departments in the company with a new automated system that would provide screening consistency across the company’s global shipping locations. To do this, Anritsu sought a technology solution that could be used cross-functionally and globally and ultimately chose an on-demand export compliance system from TradeBeam. Anritsu integrated the TradeBeam system into its multiple ERP solutions to enable automated screening processes in the United States and Canada, while offices in other regions are able to access the system via their Web browsers to perform manual screenings.
Anritsu’s compliance department and staff responsible for manual screening were trained on the TradeBeam system. Many order entry and logistics staff that previously had to be trained and kept updated on the screening process were now able to concentrate fully on their core tasks, as the mechanics of screening were now automated by the TradeBeam system.
“Tightening regulatory requirements post-9/11 combined with our rapid growth forced us to implement an export compliance automation solution,” said Jane Solomon, Trade Compliance Manager of Anristu. “The TradeBeam system has reduced compliance-related risks and improved our productivity as well as enabled us to enhance customer service, while reducing costs.”
Anritsu now has fully automated screening throughout the quote-to-ship cycle in its North American operations. Under this process, automated screening is done at multiple points of the cycle, including at the time of initial order quotation, at order placement, at order amendment, and at time of shipment. When an event occurs, such as order placement, Anritsu’s ERP system automatically sends an XML file to the TradeBeam system, which screens the transaction. Restricted-party screening, license determination screening and end-use/user screening are all performed.
Key business results from Anritsu’s export compliance initiative are numerous. In addition to a reduced risk of fines, penalties and loss of trade privileges, TradeBeam’s solution led to increased staff productivity in Anritsu’s compliance, order management and shipping departments. Anritsu also achieved a fully auditable compliance process, including access to audit trails for each transaction and worldwide access to the compliance system to drive productivity and screening consistency.
“Rules and regulations that govern export processes continue to intensify, not just in the U.S., but in many other countries as well,” said Graham R.F. Napier, president and CEO of TradeBeam. “As a result, any business that ships products overseas is feeling the strain in real operational and cost inefficiencies. Realizing that its rapid growth would exacerbate export challenges, Anritsu had the foresight to turn to automation, and we’re happy to be an integral part of their successful export compliance initiative.”
